Mostly recorded in July 1982, the album was released by Slash Records on vinyl and on cassette in April 1983, and on CD in 1987 with two extra tracks Ugly and Gimme the Car. Violent Femmes is the band's most successful album to date and went platinum eight years after its release. Slant Ma. Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes 1983. To favorites 8 Download album. Listen album. Violent Femmes. Город: Milwaukee, Femmes were one of the most inventive bands to emerge during the '80s college-rock boom. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the stripped-down trio uniquely combined punk and folk, sarcasm and spirituality, on songs that acutely captured the turmoil of transitioning to adulthood. Though indebted to the Modern Lovers and punk rock, their sound was full of homespun idiosyncrasies that made them singular. Violent Femmes is the bands debut album, released in April 1983 on Slash Records. Lead singer Gordon Gano was only 19 when the record came out most of the songs were written while he was still in high school. The record thus captures the feeling of high school sexual angst fiercely and accurately, with no filter and no chance for nostalgia to tint it into an ideal it never was. The US CD version, released in 1984, adds the songs Ugly Gimme the Car previously only available as a single. Stream Violent Femmes, a playlist by Violent Femmes from desktop or your mobile device. Aaaah, the memories..... I will never forget the first time I heard this album. I was only 11, I heard it playing from down the hall and ran to my sister's room, and demanded to know who it was. I was addicted at once. The Violent Femmes' first album is remarkable. It's intimate, it's nasty, it's tender, it's vulgar, it's mellow, it's vicious, it's funny, it's morose. If you like someone and you want to make them a mix, you need something from this album. (There's lots to choose from their first four albums, but you can't go wrong here.)I don't know how much of an impact it might make on a young person today, but for me it was a milestone for an adolescent who thought he knew what to expect from punk rock. It also makes a great gift.JBW

One of the greatest albums Eva!
Yahm
Best Rock Xylophone solo ever! This album proves you don't need to be plugged in to totally knock down the walls. Is it wrong that I use Add It Up to teach my children how to count?
Malarad
In terms of learning to count, I'd suggest the song, "Kiss Off," as a better choice.
Yojin
Simply a classic. This record belongs on any great albums list, right up there with Revolver, Pet Sounds, Astral Weeks and co.
