Words for a Hymn to the Sun completes the trilogy with the final works of the great spiritual teacher, Georges Gurdjieff. I first heard this album in 1986 and was transformed by its beauty - simultaneously peaceful, spiritual and majestic. To this day as in, just a few minutes ago I still listen to and love this album. If we compare it with the music of all the religions, we can see that music plays a great role, a great part, in so to say, religious service. Of the music he composed with Gurdjieff between June 1925 and May 1927, the only recordings issued by de Hartmann before he died in 1956 were a set of six 12-inch 78 rpm phonograph records, containing twenty different pieces, all recorded at Bartok Studio in New York City between 1951 and 1953. Both Olga de Hartmann, the woman Gurdjieff called the first friend of my inner life, and Louise Goepfert March, Gurdjieff's secretary in the early 1930s, believed that Gurdjieff was born in 1872. A passport gave a birthdate of November 28, 1877, but he once stated that he was born at the stroke of midnight at the beginning of New Year's Day Julian calendar. In 1914, Gurdjieff advertised his ballet, The Struggle of the Magicians, and he supervised his pupils' writing of the sketch Glimpses of Truth. In 1915, Gurdjieff accepted P. Ouspensky as a pupil, and in 1916, he accepted the composer Thomas de Hartmann and his wife, Olga, as students. Georges I.
