Album

Blood & Chocolate is the eleventh studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello, released in the United Kingdom as Demon Records XFIEND 80, and in the United States as Columbia 40518. After his previous album King of America with producer T-Bone Burnett and different musicians, this album reunited him with producer Nick Lowe and his usual backing group the Attractions. It peaked at No. 16 on the UK Albums Chart, and No. 84 on the Billboard 200. The album was also included in. The main difference between the reunion and the Attractions' earlier work is the tone - This Year's Model was tense and out of control, whereas Blood & Chocolate is controlled viciousness. Tokyo Storm Warning, I Hope You're Happy Now, and I Want You are the nastiest songs he has ever recorded, both lyrically and musically - Costello snarls the lyrics and the Attractions bash out the chords. With the release of Blood & Chocolate, Eivis Costellos credibility problem matches that of Neil Young. Earlier this year, Elvis announced that he was returning to his given name of Declan MacManus to divorce myself from the snarling reputation of Elvis Costello. Costellos earlier forays into country, soul and psychedelia were probably inevitable, given his and the Attractions mastery of pop forms, and although some will see Blood & Chocolate as a return to basics, similar to Talking Heads Little Creatures, Costello is still exploring an alternative to pop. Hard driving, desperate rock and roll from EC and the Attractions. Steve Nieve's organ punctuates madly and cascades it's way over Bruce Thomas's bass lines, creating a melody like a disastrous waterfall that pours over Pete Thomas's rock solid drumming. The result is a discordant, spartan proceeding that has some of EC's best songs and the Attractions' best playing. Album by Elvis Costello & The Attractions. I Hope You're Happy Now.
