Rock It to the Moon is the debut album by English rock group Electrelane. It was released on compact disc in the UK in 2001 by Let's Rock, and issued by Mr. Lady Records in the US in 2002. Too Pure, the record label Electrelane signed with for their follow up album, The Power Out 2004, reissued Rock It to the Moon in 2005. The album was mostly instrumental. Verity Susman explained, Way way back, when we first started, we always had a lot of singing. But it never worked that well. When we did. Electrelane didn't just stuff it because they happened to have enough songs. And the length doesn't smack of a massive collective ego it smacks more of a group too excited to be making music together to ever stop. There are too many ideas floating throughout and there are too many extended passages to warrant major pruning. If a disc held 100 minutes, this would probably be 99 minutes long. Besides, who wants to put a stop to fun . The British four-piece Electrelane play almost nothing but instrumentals on their debut, Rock It to the Moon. The album sounds cinematic, and yet it's definitely more than just background music. Take the second track, Long Dark, which opens slowly with a throbbing bass and the sound of Mia Clarke scraping her guitar strings. The tension builds as Clarke kicks off a Peter Gunn guitar line and Verity Susman pulls up with her stabbing, needle-toned Farfisa. They tear it up for a couple of minutes, switch to a slow part, and then rip it up again. Ten minutes, three seg. Album 2001 11 Songs. Alternative 2001. I think the comparisons are a little overblown, but the album more than anything resembles a slightly unfinished work. Without vocals there are some small exceptions here and there, the group just doesn't really manage to carve out its own niche. It lacks a unique sound that lets you know that you're definitely NOT listening to something by another group. Coming to you straight out of Brighton, UK. Rock It To The Moon'' is the all-female electronic, Avant Garde band's first release, as they have one other that came out as it's follow-up. The gals were supposed to play a pub in my area fairly recent, but the gig was apparently cancelled
