Produced by T Bone Burnett, it was released on August 26, 2008 by Geffen Records. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album at the 51st Grammy Awards. Rolling Stone called it one of the strongest studio sets of his career, standing alongside classics such as Singin' the Blues and Lucille. King stepped outside. It's been so long since B. King stepped outside of his comfort zone that One Kind Favor comes as a bit of a shock. Unlike so many albums he's cut in the wake of the crossover success of The Thrill Is Gone way back in 1970, the sound is stripped-back, not splashy, there is not a reliance on guest stars, and the repertoire is pure blues - and these are all songs that he's never recorded before, including three tunes by his longtime. King was his appearance with U2 on the single When Love Comes To Town on Rattle and Hum, and I've enjoyed his music ever since. With a recording career that spans over 50 years and at 82 years of age you might be concerned that his tank is empty. I am pleased to report that this could not be further from the truth. This album shows, once again, that BB King is dedicated to excellence. Listening to the album, I feel as though I am right there in the studio with King and the band, enjoying a once in a lifetime Blues session. There's not a bad song in the set. Kings best album in years, its one of the strongest studio sets of his career, standing alongside classics such as Singin the Blues and Lucille. Where those early titles highlighted his youthful, wailing vocals and stinging guitar, this one plays to Kings current strengths: the tear-stained vibrato of his mature voice, punctuated by raunchy licks. Here, King is front and center, with a killer backing band - Jim Keltner John Lennon, Mick Jagger on drums, Natha
